A Rate-based Switch Algorithm with Delay Adjustment for Abr Traac to Achieve Max-min Fairness

چکیده
All the current rate-based proposals suggest to adjust the source transmission rate based on the received RM cell immediately. However, this approach may lead to overloading of the bottleneck switch. We propose that the adjustment should be delayed. The amount of delay depends on the source-to-bottleneck separations of diierent connections, which can be obtained during the call setup. Based on our Max-Min scheme 2] that can rapidly achieve the fair share allocation, a new rate-based switch mechanism is proposed to take into account of the delay. With this, overloading of the bottleneck switch due to the diierent source-to-bottleneck separations can be avoided and thus, the peak queue length of the bottleneck switch can be minimized. 1 Problem Deenition Under the current rate-based ow control framework suggested by ATM Forum, the switches calculate the proper submission rates for diierent VCs passing through it. This information is sent to the sources via the RM cells. The sources immediately adjust their allowed cell rates (ACRs) after receiving the RM cells. However, since diierent VCs may have diierent bottleneck-to-source separations, immediate adjustment of ACRs after receiving the RM cells may be hazardous. Consider Figure 1, there are a set of VCs passing through a bottleneck switch. The delays between the switch and the source end systems (SESs) of VCs a and b are Delay a and Delay b (where Delay b Delay a), respectively. Suppose there is a change in

A New Rate-Based Switch Algorithm for ABR Traffic to Achieve Max-Min Fairness with Analytical Approximation Delay Adjustment
In this paper, a new rate-based switch mechanism for ABR traac in ATM networks, which aims to rapidly achieve max-min fairness allocation, is proposed. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme can out-perform both CAPC AF94-0983] and ERICA AF95-0178] in terms of response times and peak queue lengths. An analytical approximation of the performance is also introduced and its accuracy is f...
متن کاملA Fast Switch Algorithm for ABR Traffic to Achieve Max-Min Fairness
In this paper, a new rate-based switch mechanism is proposed for ow control of ABR traac. By making use of the most up-to-date information from both the upstream and the downstream paths, the current bottleneck of the VC can quickly be found. The bandwidth allocation for diierent VCs can then be adjusted by using this new bottleneck information to achieve max-min fairness allocation 1]. We comp...
متن کاملAn efficient rate allocation algorithm for ATM networks providing max-min fairness
We describe a new algorithm for rate allocation within the individual switches of an ATM network implementing a rate-based congestion control algorithm for Available Bit-Rate (ABR) traac. The algorithm performs an allocation in (1) time, allowing it to be applied to ATM switches supporting a large number of virtual circuits. When the total available capacity or the requests of the individual co...
متن کاملRate-based Scheme for Atm Flow Control
ATM is representative of the connection-oriented resource provisioning class of protocols. The ATM network is expected to provide end-to-end QoS guarantees to connections in the form of bounds on delays, errors and/or losses. Performance management in ATM network depend upon different parameters. ABR flow control is one of the important parameter for performance management. In this paper, we sh...
متن کاملDesigning Efficient Explicit-Rate Switch Algorithm with Max-Min Fairness for ABR Service Class in ATM Networks
A rate-based congestion control algorithm regulates cell emission rate of source end systems based on feedback information from the network. It was standardized by the ATM Forum for application to an ABR (Available Bit Rate) service class. In the standard, two types of congestion notification methods of the switch are specified: EFCI marking and explicit-rate marking. In this paper, we focus on...
